I study film culture, nontheatrical sties, and Taiwan Cinema from a transnational perspective.

Hi, welcome to my website. I am a film and media studies scholar with research interests in nontheatrical film and media, art cinema, critical theory, and Taiwanese cinema. I hold a PhD in Media Arts and Sciences from Indiana University Bloomington and I am currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the Chiu Program for Taiwan Studies at Oregon State University. I am an active member in North American Taiwan Studies Association since 2023.

My dissertation examines the reception and repurposing of art cinema discourses and films in postwar Taiwan. My current research focuses on the production, distribution, exhibition, and reception of films sponsored by the authoritarian Kuomintang (KMT, the Chinese Nationalist Party) state. I am also working on a book manuscript based on the dissertation.

My work has been published in The Journal of e-Media Studies, Taiwan Historical Research (臺灣史研究), and Cinema & Cie.

I can be reached at ilinliufilmstudies at gmail.com
